Falling Into Books Giveaway Hop

Falling Into Books Blog HopHey everyone! It's finally time to start the Falling Into Books Giveaway Hop! Before I get to what I'm giving away, let me just say that I am not hosting this event, that would be Michelle over at Oh! For the LOVE of Books! To get a list of all the other participants, head on over to her blog.

Alright, now for my part. If you've been hanging around my blog, you know I'm giving away Far From the War by Jeffrey David Payne. You can find a review of it under the author's name on my review page, and the Goodreads link is on the post before this one. I really loved the book, and hopefully  you will too.

To enter the giveaway, you'll have to be a follower (the same goes for all the blogs participating. For me, use Google Friend Connect), you have to give me your name (or alias), and you have to give me your email. I won't be keeping any of this information afterword and I won't be distributing it either. The only one who will see all of this is me. You also have to be 13 or older and in the U.S.

Optional entries include your website or blog, posting a comment on this post, following me on Twitter (@manda_panda95), and following me on Facebook (Amanda's Writings). Links for Twitter and Facebook are either on my sidebars or on the bottom of the page. With all that being said, good luck and don't forget to check out the other blogs!

Thanks for reading!

Book Review: Far From the War by Jeffrey David Payne

Synopsis (from Goodreads.com): Economic ruin and partisan rancor have pushed America to the brink of a new civil war. Esther is caught in the middle, serving as a page in the United States House of Representatives when rogue politicians and military leaders stage a modern day coup d'etat. When the coup turns violent, she abandons Washington, D.C. for home. She must learn to survive on her own as transportation and financial networks fail, as the war disrupts food and water supplies. The result is a cautionary tale about political extremism and the true cost of war.

My Review: *I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.* This was an excellent book. I loved it. Once I got started, I couldn't put it down. This war suddenly starts out of nowhere and all Esther wants is to go home. Unfortunately for her, it's not as simple as boarding a plane anymore. As she travels across the country, she meets old friends, makes new ones, sits through long car and train rides, and long treks through cold forests.

I loved how the setting changed often. There was always something new. I also loved how no one was safe. The events in the book effected everyone somehow. It wasn't all about running and hiding, either. It was about the effects of war on family and friendships. It was relatable. The characters were all relatable. Relatable characters make it easier to like the book. They were all well-developed too.

So I loved this book, and hopefully you will too! Thanks for reading!

Upcoming Awesomeness

Hey everyone! I don't know if you noticed, but I am featuring a new button on my blog! It's actually right there, on my sidebar ------>. The button consists of a picture of leaves, and the words "Falling Into Books Blog Hop." Just in case you can't see it, I'm posting it here as well:
Falling Into Books Blog Hop
If you click the pictured button, it should take you to Oh! For the Love of Books! The underlined blog title will also take you there if the said button for some reason doesn't work. So this blog hop won't start until September 26th but will go through September 30th. What I will be giving away will be announced on the 20th of September, so keep an eye out for that post. I'm not sure of the exact number of other people participating, but I know for sure that Oh! For the Love of Books! is participating, and also The Bookworm Is Here! More information should be forthcoming quite soon, I expect.

That's all for right now, so thanks for reading and keep an eye out for the giveaway hop!

Book Review: Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

When Sam met Grace, he was a wolf and she was a girl. Eventually he found a way to become a boy, and their love moved from a curious distance to the intense closeness of shared lives.

That should have been the end of their story. But Grace was not meant to stay human. Now she is the wolf. And the wolves of Mercy Falls are about to be killed in one final, spectacular hunt.

Sam would do anything for Grace. But can one boy and one love rally change a hostile, predatory world? The past, the present, and the future are about to collide in one pure moment -- a moment of death or life, farewell or forever.

My Review: Forever was spectacular. It was the perfect end to a great trilogy. It left me breathless.

Lots of strange stuff is happening in Mercy Falls. Unfortunately, Sam is left to deal with it all. Poor Sam. All the tensions that have been building in the first two books come to a peak, and everything boils over. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I was surprised quite a few times  by some of the things that happened.

Sam and Grace are still in love, still searching for the cure. They grow closer and closer throughout the book and do anything to stay together. Isabel and Cole. Ha. I really loved how that turned out. Both characters change drastically in Forever and have major effects on the outcome of the story.

I really loved the way the book ended. I gives you room to think, and those are the best kinds of endings.

So I thought I'd tack a few things on the end of this review, like the book trailer (which is brilliant), and Maggie's websites (also brilliant).
