Book Review: I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):

In the beginning they were a group of nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorian. Nine aliens who scattered on Earth. Nine aliens who look like ordinary teenagers living ordinary lives, but who have extraordinary, paranormal skills. Nine aliens who might be sitting next to you now.
The Nine had to separate and go into hiding. The Mogadorian caught Number One in Malaysia, Number Two in England, and Number Three in Kenya. All of them were killed. John Smith, of Paradise, Ohio, is Number Four. He knows that he is next.

I Am Number Four is the thrilling launch of a series about an exceptional group of teens as they struggle to outrun their past, discover their future—and live a normal life on Earth.

My Review: I actually wasn't all that impressed by this book. I saw the movie before I read the book, so that influenced my thoughts on this book a lot. It wasn't a bad book. It had a lot of action and cool concepts. The characters were all great, they all had their own personalities and they all had a purpose. There was a lot of back story, and that was good.  I think the main reason I didn't like the book was because I liked the characters so much more in the movie. I think that if I had read the book first, I would have liked it better.

So I am working my way through Maggie Stiefvater's new book Forever and I hope to have that finished soon! Thanks for reading!

Book Review: Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

My Review: Wow. This book was fantastic! I really wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. I mean, how can space ships be cool? Haha. Anyway, it was super exciting. There was never a dull moment and there was always something to keep you hooked. There were a bunch of unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. One of the best things about this book: it wasn't cliche. Lots of originality here.

The characters were definitely original. They were all very interesting. I grew attached to a couple of them. The main characters were always doing something, whether it be making someone angry or uncovering a big scheme. Let me just say that there were more than one of those.

The end surprised me. I really wasn't expecting it. When everything was said and done, I was surprised. Not only was I surprised, I wanted to read more. Unfortunately, the next book won't be out until sometime next year. In the mean time, I suggest you pick up this book if you haven't already and dig in! Thanks for reading!

the cold.

For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.

the heat.

Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.
the shiver.

Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace...until now.
